“A work of art . . . is neither a confessional nor a frozen tantrum; it is a developed metaphor, a non-discursive symbol that articulates what is verbally ineffable–the logic of consciousness itself"—Suzanne K. Langer

David Hadlock is Professor Emeritus, California State University, Long Beach. He has an MFA from California Institute of the Arts. Clients include the J. Paul Getty Museum, American Film Institute, Costume Designers Guild, Detroit Institute of the Arts, and Long Beach Museum of Art. He was founding Editorial and Design Director of Performance magazine. His work has been included in exhibitions and national journals documenting professional excellence including an AIA International Book Award for design for Princeton Architectural Press.

His friend Richard Oden once described an aesthetic process as “working through thousands of intuitive gestures, some of which he intuitively reaffirms, others of which he intuitively obliterates, until an image evolves from which the process has edited irrelevance and emphasized abiding fascinations.”
